Four Flemington Stakes Wins For Inglis Graduates

With the third day of the Flemington Carnival over for another year, Inglis graduates were successful in four stakes races, highlighted by consecutive Inglis trifectas.

Going into today, Inglis graduates had won seven of the last 10 VRC Oaks, but the spoils were taken this year by Ken King Thoroughbred's filly Set Square, a daughter of Inglis Easter graduate Reset.

The third race of the day, the Group 3 Gucci Stakes over 1100m was won in impressive fashion by the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Winter Book graduate Onemorezeta (Onemorenomore x Little Zeta).

Bred by Bob Hannon’s Ascot Park, the same breeder as Champion Three-year-old and Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate Shamus Award, Onemorezeta who was incidentally the first stakes winner for the Group 1-winning Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate Onemorenomore, was passed in shy of her reserve and retained to race by her breeders who sent the filly to trainer Kris Lees.

A winner of her first two starts this time in, the filly headed to Melbourne and was extremely impressive on her stakes debut.

"This is a filly who has come a long way in a short time, and there is still a lot of upside to her yet," stated Lees post-race.

The other Group 3 race at the meeting saw an Inglis trifecta achieved with the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale graduate Vain Queen (Artie Schiller x Our Teneriffe) defeating the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate Bounding with Shamal Wind, a graduate of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, dead-heating back in third.

Trained by John Sadler, Vain Queen was bred and offered by Mockingbird Hill at the 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, before being purchased for $42,000 by Mr and Mrs Green.

The winner of seven of her 12 starts, the three-and-a-half length win by the four-year-old was super impressive with connections now likely to spell the mare and aim her towards the Group 1 Sportingbet Classic (1200m) in Adelaide in April next year.

“It’s just a matter of whether we set her for the autumn here or the Sangster Stakes (Sportingbet Classic) in Adelaide,” Sadler said.

The other Inglis trifecta of the day occurred in the Listed TCL 4K UHD TV Stakes (1800m) when three-year-old colt Petrology (Fastnet Rock x Romantic River), a graduate of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale recorded a head victory over Inglis Premier Yearling Sale graduate Chill Party, with a further length back to the winner’s stablemate and fellow Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate Tashbeeh in third.

After settling handy in the run, jockey Dwayne Dunn needed to wait for a gap to appear before he could make his run. Coming off the heels of those in front, the three-quarter-brother to the Group 1-winning, Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale graduate Aqua D’Amore, dashed to the line to hold off the late runs of the placegetters.

Set to head to the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) at his next start, the Lindsay Park Bloodstock purchased colt was secured for $200,000 from the draft of Coolmore Stud.

Arguably one of the most impressive wins of the day was achieved by the four-year-old mare Atmospherical (Northern Meteor x Faster Pussycat) in the Listed Dilmah Earl Grey Stakes over 1000m.

Bred and consigned by Widden Stud at the 2012 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Atmospherical was passed in just below her $40,000 reserve before heading to the David Pfieffer stable.

A winner of the Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes at Scone in May, the mare has been in top class form this time in and connections were rewarded with her second stakes victory.

"She's always been a handy filly and she seems to be getting better with age," Pfieffer said.

"It was always a bit of a query down the straight for the first time and coming to a new state but she acquitted herself and James rode her perfectly, she looked the winner a long way out.

"She really seems to love a hot tempo and I love the way she keeps improving for us.

"She's got a great pedigree and a great group of owners are involved."

With graduates of the Inglis Easter, Classic and Premier all saluting the judge at stakes level on Thursday, we look forward to Saturday, the final day of the Flemington Carnival.
