Foxwedge To Make Anticipated Debut At Rosehill

Racing And Sports - Monday, 15 November 2010

A pair of well bred colts in Foxwedge and Sabutai will attempt to go a step closer toward a Golden Slipper start when they make their debuts at Rosehill on Saturday while Gerald Ryan's filly Saramenha can book her spot in the $3.5million race if she runs in the fillies division as expected.

Rosehill will conduct a pair of two-year-old Handicaps over 1100m, one for the colts and geldings and another for the fillies.

With nine and six nominations for the boys and girls divisions respectively, each event will only attract small fields but could contain horses who will contest the $3.5million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) next April.

Two well bred colts in the form of Foxwedge and Sabutai are expected to make their debuts this Saturday.

A $925,000 purchase at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Foxwedge (pictured at Easter) was the most expensive yearling by Fastnet Rock sold this year.

Foxwedge is trained by John O'Shea and made his first official public appearance at Rosehill on November 9 when he won a 900m barrier trial by eight lengths.

Also barrier trialling at Rosehill last Tuesday was the Ingham-owned Sabutai who was purchased at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale for $200,000.

By More Than Ready out of Danzero mare Dazzle Light, Sabutai is a half brother to multiple stakes winner and Group 1 placed mare Illuminates .

Gerald Ryan-trained filly Saramenha will tackle the fillies Handicap over 1100m after a comfortable five length win at Rosehill last Saturday.

The daughter of Snitzel can nearly assure herself of a start in the 2011 Golden Slipper based on prizemoney if she records a third straight win on Saturday.

In other races at Rosehill this Saturday, the Open Handicap over 1400m and the Benchmark 85 (1200m) have each attracted large numbers at the nominations stage.

The 1400m Open Handicap could see the return of Listed winner Adnocon who will likely take on stablemate Ahdashim and consistent sprinter Griffon .

Griffon is also nominated for the Benchmark 85 Handicap (1200m) where the Peter Snowden-trained Killian could resume.

Other runners nominated for the event include the Joseph Pride-trained sprinter Title who is after a third straight win and Paul Perry's Southern Skye.
