Full field for RL Inglis Classic

A full field of 14 runners has been declared for Saturday’s $250,000 Restricted Listed Inglis Classic (1200m) at Randwick.

The Inglis Classic has become a key form race to other big 2YO and 3YO races over the years, and the strength of this year’s field suggests that trend will continue.

This is the 20th running of the race. Past winners that have gone on to win Group 1 races include Laurie’s Lottery, Choisir and Peggy Jean while Fair Embrace and Pane In The Glass have won the Inglis Classic and placed at the top level later in their careers.

Saturday’s field is littered with talented juveniles and has attracted runners from NSW, Queensland and the ACT.

The Inglis Classic is restricted to horses purchased at the 2016 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Randwick trainers Peter and Paul Snowden will be the most represented stable with three runners in the feature event – Ultramarine (Choisir x Super Blue), San Marco (Smart Missile x April in Venice) and Bull Market (Written Tycoon x Zals).

Peter Snowden was pleased with each of the three colts, all of which have had one race start heading into the Saturday.

“They’re certainly all capable of performing very well on the weekend,’’ Snowden said.

“Saturday will determine where they all go next but any of the three could pop up without surprising.’’

The Inglis Classic is Race 4 on Saturday’s 10-race Randwick program and is scheduled to start at 2pm.
