G1 Glory awaits as Inglis graduates dominate

A range of G1 races in coming weeks and months loom for several Inglis graduates who between them won six Stakes races in the past 24 hours.

At Rosehill today consistent mare Roots (Press Statement) scored a deserving and valuable first Stakes success when claiming the G2 Emancipation Stakes.

Now a six-time winner from 15 starts – including the $250,000 Inglis Bracelet at Flemington on VRC Oaks Day – Roots will now be given a freshen up, with a potential Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign ahead.

“This was her grand final, she’s won her grand final. She’s a Group 2 winner now, it’s worked out really well,’’ her trainer Chris Waller said.

“Now you look at a race like the Tatts Tiara in Queensland which is a Group 1, which is the pinnacle, so we’ll see how she goes between now and then.’’

Roots is a $52,000 buy for Yugengaisha Murakami Kinya Bokujo from the Classic Yearling Sale, where she was offered by Vinery Stud.

She races in the colours of Heath Newton for a partnership that includes Sheamus Mills and Chesapeake Thoroughbreds’ Anthony Roberts.

Later in the day Bandersnatch (Casino Prince) booked himself a ticket to next Saturday’s G1 Doncaster Mile following the easiest of victories in the G3 Doncaster Prelude.

The Hawkes Racing-trained 6YO settled just behind the speed before exploding away midway down the straight to put the race beyond doubt.

Bandersnatch (pictured) is a $42,000 Classic Yearling Sale purchase for Gerald Ryan from the Amarina Farm draft and has now won almost $900k in earnings.

Today’s win guarantees Bandersnatch a start in next weekend’s $3m Doncaster Mile on Day 1 of The Championships at Randwick.

Also at Rosehill outstanding mare Montefilia lost no admirers when finishing a close 2nd in the G1 Tancred Stakes.

It was a second consecutive G1 placing for Montefilia after she finished second behind G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes favourite Dubai Honour in last Saturday’s Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill.

Montefilia will be offered for sale at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale at Riverside on the evening of Thursday May 4.

The Chairman’s Sale catalogue will be announced on Monday morning.

At Flemington today Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s stunning run with Inglis-purchased 2YOs continued when Bossy Nic (Nicconi) easily won the G3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes.

A fortnight after exciting juvenile Veight made it two from two with a big win in the G2 Sires’ Produce, Bossy Nic showed a similarly dominant turn of foot to explode away with her first Stakes victory.

The McEvoy’s teamed up with Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock to purchase the Clive Landale and Austin Miller-bred Bossy Nic for $190,000 at the Premier Yearling Sale, where she was offered by Noorilim Park.

The result also provided a significant update for the Chairman’s Sale.

Word On The Street – a sister to Bossy Nic’s dam River Boss – will be offered in the Chairman’s Sale.

To be offered in the Newgate draft, Word On The Street is one of the most unique breeding opportunities to reach the open market anywhere in the world this year, being the only mare in the Chairman’s catalogue in foal to sire sensation Extreme Choice on Northern Hemisphere time.

Meanwhile at Moonee Valley last night the in-form mare Sirileo Miss (Pride Of Dubai) made it back-to-back Stakes wins with a 4L demolition of her opposition in the G2 Sunline Stakes.

The win backed up her last start victory in the G3 Matron Stakes and takes her career earnings to $960,000.

The Gary O’Meara-bred Sirileo Miss has been a fabulous investment for her trainer Symon Wilde, who purchased her for just $60,000 from the Miranda Park draft at the Premier Yearling Sale.

The G1 Inglis Sires in eight days looms as a potential next option for exciting 2YO Brave Mead (Brave Smash) who comfortably won the Listed Valley Pearl.

The Australian Bloodstock-owned and Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained colt was sent out a $1.30 favourite and gave punters no cause for concern, winning easily to take his record to an imposing 3:2.0.1 and providing his sire with his first Stakes victory.

“It’s great to get a winner for Australian Bloodstock and the stallion looks pretty good too, Brave Smash, his record is excellent. He’s one to watch for sure,’’ winning co-trainer David Eustace said.

“We haven’t had a chance to really test him yet, he’s run three times in four weeks but he’s got a great attitude.

“The [Inglis] Sires is in eight days and he didn’t do much today and he looks like he’ll get seven [furlongs] for sure so I’ll chat to Ciaron and see how he comes through it.’’

Maher and Eustace purchased Brave Mead for $90,000 on Inglis Digital in the 2021 July (Early) Sale.

And talented 3YO filly Papillon Club (Toronado) scored a valuable first Stakes success with a comfortable victory in the G3 Alexandra Stakes.

Trainer Greg Eurell purchased Papillon Club for $70,000 at the Inglis Gold Yearling Sale, where she was offered by Rosemont Stud.

The win takes her career record to 6:3.2.1 and $350,000 in prizemoney.
