The 2025 Inglis Weanling Sales Series – the most lucrative weanling sales series in the Southern Hemisphere – is now open for entries.
A record $28.4m was traded across the Inglis Weanling Sales Series – which comprises the Australian Weanling Sale and Great Southern Weanling Sale – in 2024, over $9m more than the rival Australian weanling auction.
That $28.4m is a 24% year-on-year increase, at a time when the closest rival weanling auction dropped 15% in gross.
It was also the third consecutive year Inglis weanling sales ended as Southern Hemisphere market leader in terms of overall turnover, thanks primarily to the huge influx of support for Inglis from the leading breeders, stud farms and consignors across Australia and New Zealand.
The phenomenal support has led to greater quality at the sales, which in turn will no doubt lead to a stronger buying bench again in 2025, thanks to the likes of recent star graduates including G1-winning 2YO Hayasugi, G1-winning mare Kimochi and incumbent G1 Blue Diamond Stakes favourite Field of Play (pictured).
The Inglis Weanling Sale Series also has a reputation for attracting the strongest pinhook buyers annually due to its record of producing strong returns, including pinhook profits of $270,000, $220,000, $215,000, $210,000 etc from weanlings purchased through the Inglis Weanling Sale Series in 2024.
Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch described the recent growth of the Inglis Weanling Sales Series as “reward for effort’’.
“A lot of hard work has gone into our breeding stock sales series and especially our weanling sales to show vendors and breeders that they have the best opportunity to achieve the best results should they choose to sell through Inglis,’’ Hutch said.
“We had over 350 individual listed buyers across our weanling sales series in 2024, with buyers from across Australia and New Zealand supplemented by a large volume of international buyers – it was incredible.
“That resulted in more horses selling for $500,000 or more, more selling for $200,000 or more and more selling for $100,000 or more than our nearest competitor in 2024, which is something we are very proud of.
“We were a long way behind in terms of market share a number of years ago but we have committed to earning the trust and confidence of vendors across the market and that is reflected in the nature of the support and the results that we have had in recent years.
“I think the strong results from the Classic Sale, in a difficult market, demonstrate the commitment of the Inglis team to achieving the very best results for our clients and we will be working hard to ensure that this is as much the case through the breeding stock sales series.”

Amongst the highlights of the series in 2025 is sure to be the draft of Dorrington Farm-bred weanlings – which will be offered in conjunction with Noorilim Park – at the Australian Weanling Sale on May 5-6.
The draft will include a Blue Point daughter of G1 Blue Diamond winner Catchy and a Stay Inside daughter of G1 winner Sheidel, as well as weanlings by the likes of proven stallion Toronado and hugely popular young sire Home Affairs.
“It’s been fairly well publicised now that I’ve sold the farm and I’m racing around 25 horses but our new policy now – in a joint venture with Noorilim – is we’re selling all of our foals as weanlings moving forward on an ongoing basis,’’ Crabtree said.
“It is a beautiful group of weanlings going to the Australian Weanling Sale, sons and daughters of some of my best ever mares including Catchy, Sheidel, Sistonic etc. It’s not going to be easy to say goodbye to them but it’s how we are doing things permanently now.
“This presents an opportunity for anybody and everybody to buy into some of the great families in Australian racing and I have no doubt buyers will fall in love with these weanlings once they see them for themselves.’’
Another highlight lot set to feature in the sale is the Too Darn Hot son of top-class 2YO Enbihaar, a brother to current star filly Too Darn Lizzie which is set to be offered at the sale by Widden Stud.
Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch added: “Really it’s an honour that Robert and Sylvie have given us the opportunity to offer these weanlings in Sydney in May.
“Robert has an extraordinary passion for racing and breeding and he deserves huge credit for what he has achieved as an owner and a breeder.
“His red and white silks are synonymous with top-class racehorses and elite breeding stock in Australia and he has cultivated some wonderful pedigrees during his time as a breeder.
“The Too Darn Hot – Enbihaar colt is a potentially very special offering also, he is an extraordinarily well-credentialled horse and it’s exciting that he will be part of the catalogue.
“The opportunity to invest in weanlings of such quality as prospective racehorses and then breeding prospects of the future is hugely exciting and one that I’m sure a lot of people are going to be very excited about.’’
