The G1 Goodwood Handicap winner Reserve Bank (Capitalist) will be offered as a stallion prospect through a private online sale to be conducted by Inglis next week.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr-trained Reserve Bank was undefeated at two, winning by 5.5 lengths as a juvenile on debut – running the fastest last 400m and 200m sectionals of the day - before backing that up with a 2.8 length victory as a spring 3YO.
At just his third career start he finished 2nd – beaten a nose – in the G2 Danehill Stakes before coming into his own as an autumn 3YO, winning the Listed Redelva Stakes and G2 Tobin Bronze Stakes in the lead-up to his career highlight, victory in the G1 Goodwood Hcp.
His Goodwood victory saw him defeat 12 individual Stakes winners including G1 winners Giga Kick, Climbing Star and Charm Stone as well as the likes of Generosity, Stretan Angel, Ameena etc, making him the only 3YO colt to win the prestigious sprint over the past two decades.
Reserve Bank is also one of only 10 colts to win an open age G1 in Australia over 1400m or less since 2018 alongside Alabama Express, Beiwacht, Bivouac, Cylinder, Home Affairs, Jacquinot, Private Harry, Tentyris and Trapeze Artist.
Of those, eight are either currently standing at stud or will be from this season. Four of them have had runners – Alabama Express, Bivouac, Home Affairs and Trapeze Artist – each having already produced at least one G1 winner.
Reserve Bank is a grandson of Champion Sires Written Tycoon and Fastnet Rock.
Written Tycoon was Champion Sire of Australia in 2020/21 and is the sire of 18 G1 winners and 82 Stakes winners, while Fastnet Rock, broodmare sire of Reserve Bank, is the sire of 44 G1 winners and 200 Stakes winners.
Co-trainer Michael Kent Jr has no doubt Reserve Bank has what it takes to make a successful stallion.
“He made a big impression early doors, winning his first two starts by big margins before being beaten a nostril in the stallion-making Danehill Stakes at Group 2 level,’’ Kent Jr said.
“He really came into his own as a 3YO sprinter winning three on end in the autumn; the Listed Redelva, the G2 Tobin Bronze by a widening margin and then won a very strong edition of the G1 Goodwood Handicap, coming from last to win by 1.5 lengths.
“He was set to jump as third favourite in the G1 Galaxy before having a barrier incident and had to be scratched.
“We then set him for the Queensland Winter Carnival this year where he got a very heavy track first up and then drew extremely wide in the Doomben 10,000 and had to go back to last which also didn’t suit him.’’
Reserve Bank will be the inaugural offering through the Inglis ‘Bull Ring’, a private auction platform, participation in which is by invitation only.
Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth added: “The opportunity to offer Reserve Bank through the Inglis Bull Ring is hugely exciting.
“He is a G1 winner, a very good-looking horse that is both well related and well bred.
“Reserve Bank is a commercial opportunity to be explored by a range of stud masters and investors – it certainly doesn’t take a lot of imagination to see how he could be a good investment for the right buyer.’’
The Reserve Bank Sale will open for bidding next Wednesday, June 17 at 9am, with the final countdown of bidding starting from 4pm the following day, Thursday June 18.
