Gai Waterhouse won her second Albury Guineas in three years on Friday, in the process winning an additional $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus for the connections of another progressive three-year-old.
Ryker (Redoute’s Choice x Mambo Chatte) put it all together for a strong win over fellow Inglis graduates Just A Blue and Without A Shadow in the 1400m event today. The stable and jockey feel as though the win could be the making of the gelding, just as it was for Fat Al two years ago.
“This horse has improved out of sight this preparation after getting over his injury as a two-year-old and being gelded. Gai has done this before bringing Fat Al down here and like him this guy will take a huge amount of benefit from today’s experience,” said owner Greg Kolivos.
Ryker was a $425,000 purchase by Gai Waterhouse Racing / James Harron Bloodstock from Torryburn Stud at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Owned by Greg and Donna Kolivos, the Albury Guineas was Ryker’s second win from eight starts.
The progressive type has big footsteps to follow as $27,000 Easter buy Fat Al went on to claim the Gr.1 ATC Epsom Handicap less than seven months after his Albury Guineas success in 2012.
The connections of Ryker take home a total $89,660 today when adding the $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus to the $29,660 first prizemoney and $10,000 BOBS Bonus available on the Myer Albury Guineas.
The Inglis Race Series moves to Moonee Valley tomorrow with a $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus on the 2040m Kane Constructions Handicap for three-year-olds.
Buyers next chance to purchase a yearling for entry into the $5million Inglis Race Series comes up at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the sale Ryker and Fat Al were purchased from.
555 lots have been catalogued for this year’s Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney on April 8, 9 and 10, including Ryker’s brother to be offered by Torryburn Stud as Lot 96.
