Gai’s mare on trial for the Stradbroke

Racenet - Clinton Payne - Tuesday, 12 May 2009

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Belong To Many will be on trial for a Stradbroke Handicap start on Saturday in the Listed Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben.

The brilliant sprinter has not won past 1200 metres at six attempts but Waterhouse believes the time is right to test the water following a dominant victory at her first start for the stable.

Belong To Many was sold at the recent Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale for $525,000 and 10 days ago had her first start for Waterhouse when winning the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast.

“She has thrived since going north and is enjoying the sun on her back,” Waterhouse said.

“She is turning into a real beach babe, going every day to have a walk and a stroll in the Nudgee waters.”

When weights were released yesterday, Belong To Many was carry 51kgs in the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 6.

If the stable elects to “go that way” top Queensland jockey Jim Byrne will be aboard.
