He quinella-ed the Inglis Nursery and Bjorn Baker says a gear change and a barrier trial has him confident he can repeat the dose in Saturday’s Inglis Classic (1200m) at Rosehill.
The Warwick Farm trainer puts the polish on Nursery runner-up Fuerza and Awarewolf, who was defeated in a Queanbeyan maiden last start.
"He should’ve won that, no doubt,” he said.
"We’ve trialled him since then at Rosehill over 900 metres and he won. He’ll start the longer-priced of my two but he’s an improver and they’re the ones that can sneak under your guard.”
Fuerza charged home in the Inglis Nursery when second to stablemate Twilight Royale. The son of Snippetson has also been to the trials since his latest run and will sport a significant gear change on Saturday.
"He’ll have the blinkers on and I’m expecting them to sharpen him up a bit,” he said.
"We gave him a quiet trial and he went great. He’s the kind of horse that I feel could make a 1400 – 1600 metre type in time so the blinkers should give him that extra pow on Saturday.
"Without knowing how some of these unraced horses go it’s a bit hard to know where we’re at but I’d like to think he’s going to be hard to beat. Maybe quinella time again?”
