Get moving on Gold nomination

Racing Victoria - Tuesday, 20 May 2014

The 30 June deadline to nominate your horse for VOBIS Gold is looming

Following the success of last month’s Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale at Oaklands, connections of Super VOBIS-nominated gallopers are reminded that the 30 June deadline to nominate their 2012-born horses for VOBIS Gold is fast approaching.

More than 340 Super VOBIS-nominated lots were catalogued across the two-day Sale, adding to well over 1000 Super VOBIS-nominated yearlings that were sold at sales all over Australia this year, including the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Sydney’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

VOBIS Gold operates in addition to Victoria’s long-standing successful Super VOBIS (Victorian Owners and Breeders Incentive Scheme) and the combined schemes offer a total of $18 million in bonuses in Victoria each year; including the annual $1.5 million VOBIS Gold Premier Race Series exclusively for VOBIS Gold-nominated horses.

During the 2013/14 season, the Premier Race Series has been targeted successfully by connections of talented gallopers including Wangaratta’s VOBIS Gold Eldorado (1300m) and VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) hero Worth A Ransom, Peter Moody’s $210,000 VOBIS Gold Ingot (1200m) winner Easy Drama and juvenile filly Mossbeat, a winner of last month’s VOBIS Gold Strike (1000m) at Warrnambool.

But it has been Darren Weir’s consistent colt Trust In A Gust that has assumed the mantle of Victoria’s VOBIS Gold pin-up horse this season, reaping massive financial rewards for his thrilled group of owners.

Purchased for $45,000 at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, the son of Keep the Faith has collected just shy of $500,000 in 12 career starts, much in thanks to his wins in the $130,000 VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade (1200m) at Ballarat and the $180,000 VOBIS Gold Star (1500m) at Moonee Valley.

“I think VOBIS is the best scheme ever and this horse is such a great advertisement for what it can provide,” Weir said.

“VOBIS Gold is just an absolutely fantastic scheme where you don’t have to pay a lot to race for some great prizemoney.”

Entry into the VOBIS Gold program is via a one-off $1100 (inc GST) fee, in addition to the Super VOBIS entry costs, that must be paid by 30 June and is available only for Super VOBIS-nominated yearlings.

Over the last week, pre-populated nomination forms have been mailed to buyers of yearlings that are eligible to be nominated for VOBIS Gold. More information on the Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold initiatives is avalaible HERE.
