Glass Could Deliver Diamonds

Bookmakers believe Testa Rossa filly Pane In The Glass can go one better than her sire and win this year’s Blue Diamond after she made a one-act affair of today’s $250,000 Inglis Classic.

The win also underlined a half-sister catalogued in the Sledmere Stud draft at the 2011 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale, which begins at Newmarket tomorrow.

PANE IN THE GLASS ($32,000 2010 Classic, 2f Testa Rossa-Lyrics) made it three wins in as many starts when strolling away to win the Classic by nearly six lengths, with Collestrada ($30,000 2010 Classic) and Pure Force ($60,000 2010 Classic) filling the minor placings.

In winning, Pane In The Glass emulated the feat of last year’s fairytale story Chance Bye, who won both the Inglis Nursery and Classic.

Bookmakers were suitably impressed with the win and they have made Pane In The Glass a clear cut favourite for this year’s $1million Blue Diamond. Her sire Testa Rossa ran second to Redoute’s Choice in the 1999 Diamond.

Inglis graduates have a brilliant record in Victoria’s richest juvenile contest, winning seven of the past 11 Diamonds including successive Classic graduates Road To Success ($18,000), True Jewels ($28,000) and Bel Esprit ($9000) from 2000 to 2002.

Pane In The Glass was offered for sale by Sledmere Stud, who have an Excellent Art half-sister catalogued as Lot 60 at this year’s Classic Sale.

The 2011 Classic Sale begins tomorrow and runs over three sessions until Tuesday.

A Classic two-year-old was also in the spotlight in Adelaide today.

ANYTHINGTHATMOVES ($20,000 2010 Classic, 2g Snippetson-Newbold Quest) opened his winning account when scoring over 1000m at Morphettville.

Stuart Gower plucked him out of the Widden Stud draft at last year’s Classic Sale and the son of Snippetson was able to improve on a narrow debut defeat to land the prize today.

Widden Stud have a tremendous record at Classic, selling Group 1 winners Whobegotyou, Triple Honour and Typhoon Zed among others. Widden has a massive draft of 51 yearlings set to go through this year’s sale.
