Global Reach Of Australian Horses Expanding

The win of Rising Empire in Singapore’s Juvenile Championship at the end of July capped off a stellar twelve months for Australian racehorses, with the reach of horses bred or sold ‘Down Under’ continuing to spread across the globe.

Racehorses offered at Inglis Sales and carrying the famous brands on their near side shoulder of Coolmore, Widden, Kia Ora, Blue Gum, Gilgai, Collingrove, Makybe and many others, were successful at Group level overseas in Great Britain, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates in the last twelve months.

Widden Stud’s brand, J T Over Lazy 2, is synonymous with success in Asia, with the likes of Easter graduates Happy Zero and Floral Pegasus having sported the Widden stamp to Group 1 glory in past years. In 2011/12 Admiration (pictured) took his Hong Kong rating into the county’s Top 10 with victory at Group 2 level, while fellow Widden product Power Of Khan won at Group 1 level in Malaysia,

Racegoers in South Africa are certainly familiar with Kia Ora Stud’s brand, M 3 Over Scroll, as it is displayed boldly on the shoulder of their champion mare Igugu, winner of the Group 1 J&B Met in January this year. A month later and 11,000kms away the Kia Ora brand was also worn to success at Group 3 level in Macau by fellow Inglis Yearling Sale graduate Excel.

Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale stars Black Caviar (bred by Rick Jamieson of Gilgai Farm) and Ortensia (bred by Len Rhodes of Riverside Stud) carried their breeder’s brands and the Australian flag to the highest international level in Great Britain and UAE respectively in the first half of 2013.

The brand of Mike O’Donnell’s Fairhill Farm was exhibited at Group 1 level in New Zealand, where Inglis Weanling Sale graduate Choice Bro took out the Manawatu Sire’ Produce Stakes.

The Dick Fowlston bred and Glentree Downs sold galloper Elderly Paradise has bloomed in Macau in 2013 to take out the country’s most esteemed Group 1 races, the Macau Derby and Macau Gold Cup.

At Group 1 level in Malaysia Speed Baby (bred by Ron Dufficy, T J & J A Hughes Racing) and Mighty Triple Ace (bred by A See) took out two of the Selangor Turf Club’s most prestigious races, the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor and Tunku Gold Cup respectively. The pair was offered by Yarraman Park Stud and Carbine Vale Thoroughbreds respectively as yearlings with Inglis.

In Singapore the brands of Makybe Racing & Breeding and Newhaven Park Stud have also been worn with success at Group level by Better Be The One and Zac Influence respectively in the last twelve months.

Coolmore’s famous ‘C’ flew past the post first in Singapore’s Juvenile Championship recently on the shoulder of Rising Empire, which was bred by Michael Crismale’s Matrix Bloodstock and sold through Coolmore’s draft at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale to Oakford Thoroughbreds, who pinhooked the son of Dehere through the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale to Singapore for $60,000.

The Coolmore ‘C’ was also worn to black type success by Inglis graduates Dylan’s Promise in South Africa and Musir in Turkey and the UAE in 2011/12.

“From top level juveniles in New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong to domination of the top races in Malaysia and Macau, to Champions in South Africa and success at Royal Ascot and Dubai’s famous meetings, racehorses bred by our clients and sold at our sales have truly shown the world how versatile, durable and courageous they are on the track throughout the last twelve months,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster points out.

“It is an indelible mark upon the esteem that buyers hold for the quality thoroughbreds offered by breeders and vendors with Inglis that they are willing to travel their purchases around the globe, and achieve so much success in doing so.

“Entries for Inglis’ next round of yearling sales in 2013 are starting to flow in and our bloodstock team are out in the field providing obligation free appraisals and fielding questions from breeders and vendors of where their stock is best placed for next year’s sales season.

“Inglis initiatives to assist both buyers are sellers of yearlings, such as the new look Classic Sale, the ‘Blue Riband’ Session at Premier and the VOBIS Gold Sale in Melbourne, have received great feedback from both parties and we are certainly looking forward to rolling them out during our Select Yearling Sale Series next year,” Webster added.
