Godolphin gallopers dominate opening session of May (Early) Sale

A trio of Godolphin horses led the way in the Inglis Digital May (Early) Online Sale, ensuring a strong start to the two-day auction.

With the May (Early) Sale officially ending tomorrow with the second and final Australian Broodmare Sale Session, today’s results were dominated by the nine-strong draft of Godolphin racehorses.

Today’s top lot was the 3YO Aleppo Pine (Blue Point), selling to Monarch Racing for $100,000.

Monarch’s Jason Micallef confirmed Aleppo Pine would be transferred to Warwick Farm trainer Richard Litt’s stables and could race again as soon as next week.

“I love Inglis Digital and we’ve had some great success off the platform buying off Godolphin especially, obviously Barber won the Listed Takeover Target Stakes for us and ran 2nd in the Listed Starlight Stakes after we bought him on Inglis Digital, we’ve had Mr Marathon Man win the Listed Canberra Cup, South Pacific run in a G1 Sydney Cup, metro winners like Secret Plan and Destination, we’ve had plenty of luck and there’s always value for money to be found on Inglis Digital,’’ Micallef said.

“This horse Aleppo Pine really fits the mould for us. I like buying off Godolphin obviously, I feel the Blue Point’s get better as late 3YOs and into their 4YO season, he’s only lightly raced and he’s only been tested over shorter ground so I’d like to get Richard to have a crack and see if he can get him to relax a bit and hit the line and see if we can get him out over a little further like his breeding suggests.

“He’s the perfect horse for us to get into a Midway and see if he can work through the grades, we’ll get him home first and have a look at him but he could potentially go to a Midway this month.’’

Today’s second-top lot was Crocodile (Ghaiyyath), purchased by Blueblood Thoroughbreds for $80,000.

The 3YO will be transferred to Ciaron Maher’s stable.

“At this stage he’s going to have a little break then we’ll target the Melbourne winter and try to find some wet tracks because he won his Maiden on a Heavy 10 so hopefully he’s a real mudlark and we can get some deep heavy tracks over the next few months,’’ Blueblood’s David Mourad said.

“He’s run some really credible races at Group level and we think with his rating he can get into some very winnable races and then see where he ends up.’’

Godolphin’s Jason Walsh added: “The market was solid for the type of horses we brought here – they’re young, lightly raced horses and it was good to see plenty of different buyers involved on them.

“We were happy with the results overall and to end up with the three top lots of the opening session was a pleasing outcome.’’

Another interesting result in the May (Early) Sale was a 5% share in multiple G1 winner Overpass, which sold to Blue Arrow Equine for $35,000.

Overpass is set to run in the G1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.

Blue Arrow’s Adam Fletcher said: “We’ve bought the dream. This is the easiest way to get into a racehorse, buy a small percentage of a horse racing at the elite level. It’s very exciting.

“Inglis Digital is super easy, we love jumping on there and buying, it’s great staff there and great service, that’s what I like most about it.’’

In total, today’s opening session of the May (Early) Sale grossed $1,504,100.

The May (Early) Sale will finish tomorrow with the Australian Broodmare Sale Session, which closes from 10am.

A total of 262 race fillies, broodmares and breeding prospects have been catalogued for tomorrow’s session including a 43-strong draft from Godolphin plus drafts from many of Australia’s leading nurseries like Arrowfield, Newgate, Yulong, Tyreel, Aristia Park, Alma Vale etc.

The G1 winner Affaire A Suivre is another highly attractive entry in tomorrow’s session.

The Kentucky-domiciled Australasian Oaks victor is offered in foal to one of the hottest sires in the world in Not This Time, on an early September cover.

Not This Time’s current Northern Hemisphere fee is US$250,000 and he is the sire of 73 Stakes winners to date at 14% Stakes winners-to-runners.

In 2025, 17 of his yearlings realised $1m or more across the Keeneland September and Fasig Tipton Saratoga yearling sales.

Amongst the mares purchased on Inglis Digital in recent years are the dams of subsequent G1 winners like Guest House, Sheza Alibi, Streisand, Libertad, Strictly Business etc.

The platform also continues to be the source of ongoing racetrack success, with 3590 races won in Australia this season by Inglis Digital graduates, which is approximately one in every five races.
