GOLDEN DAY FOR MANAWANUI

With his first ever runner in a million dollar race trainer Ron Leemon struck gold today with Manawanui saluting in the Group 1 ATC Golden Rose at Rosehill.

MANAWANUI ($45,000 2010 Classic, 3g Oratorio(IRE)-Lady Remlap), who has proven very adaptable in all his starts, defeated homebreds Smart Missile and Helmet, adding to Inglis’ great run in three-year-old stakes races.

Of the ten individual three-year-old stakes winners in Australia this season that were offered at auction, nine are graduates of Inglis Select Yearling Sales.

Coming into the race off a 4.5 length victory in the Group 3 ATC Up & Coming Stakes, today’s victory was Manawanui’s fourth win from just five starts for his ecstatic connections, takings his earnings to $765,000.

“Amazing, it’s tremendous, a dream come true”, said Ron Leemon.

“I’m so pleased for everybody that’s been involved with the stable, we’ve battled but we’ve got there”.

Bred by Wayne Palmer and snapped up by Leemon from Goodwood Farm’s draft at the 2010 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale, the son of Oratorio (IRE) has lived right up to his name, which means bold and courageous in Maori.

Goodwood Farm will offer at full brother to Manawanui (pictured) at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Light raced MASTER OF DESIGN ($2,100,000 2007 Easter, 6h Redoute’s Choice-Urge To Merge) then added a valuable Group 2 to his growing resume with victory in the ATC Sebring Sprint.

Trainer David Payne and jockey Christian Reith were very positive after the entire’s win, confident that the son of Champion sire Redoute’s Choice will be capable of mixing it at Group 1 level later this spring.

Plagued with his share of problems Master Of Design was only having his twelfth career start today, but was able to notch up his sixth win against a quality field littered with Group 1 winners.

Tanby ($200,000 2008 Easter, 5g Galileo-Dane Beltar) stamped himself a real stayer in the making saluting at Moonee Valley over 2500m in impressive style for Macedon Lodge.

Irish Dream (5m Falbrav-Queen Emma) recorded her first Melbourne metro win for new owner Kevin Moloney of Segenhoe Stud. The Peter Moody trained mare has proved a great investment for all connections involved with her since being snapped up at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale for $22,000.

The daughter of Falbrav was then sold at Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale to Heinrich Racing for $57,500, was stakes placed in Queensland before being sold to Moloney for $150,000 earlier this year. Moody will be aiming for black type success next start.

Carnero ($30,000 2007 Premier, 6h Carnegie-Matter) made a long awaited return to the winners circle at Moonee Valley for his patient trainer Dean Binaisse and owners, the Davies Family.

Carnero showed great early promise winning the 2008 Inglis Premier before encountering tendon troubles, but hopes are high that the entire stays together for a shot at the Group 3 JRA Cup back at Moonee Valley on September 30.
