Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 25 July 2015
A Breednet ‘One to Watch’ when she scored on debut at Bathurst on June 9, progressive Sebring filly Seeking Asylum has scarcely put a foot wrong since with a tenacious win at Canterbury on Saturday justifying the decision of connections to pay her first acceptance for the $1million Group I ATC Golden Rose on September 12.
A $100,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Elite Thoroughbreds, Seeking Asylum has been practising her craft at the country and provincial tracks for Gary Portelli, but was brought to town on Saturday for the open juvenile event over 1550 metres.
Under a brilliant ride from Winona Costin, the talented chestnut produced a strong finish to beat off the colts and claim a short half head win, her fourth from five starts with over $116,000 in prizemoney.
Seeking Asylum is the second winner for Asylum Seeker (SAfr), the Champion 2YO Filly of her year and winner of the Group I Greyville Golden Slipper.
Bred by Tara Farm, Seeking Asylum is a good result for her breeders as her dam Asylum Seeker has kept going back to Sebring and has a yearling filly and weanling filly by the sire and will foal to him again this spring.
Sebring has had an outstanding season and is currently third on the Australian General Sires List by earnings to Fastnet Rock and Exceed and Excel with less than a week to go.
