Golden Rose Plans for Assertive Choice

20th Jul 2005

The royally bred colt ASSERTIVE CHOICE (2004 Easter $1.3 million) made a winning return to the track at Canterbury yesterday, when he worked hard to get to the lead and then proved far too solid in the run home.

“He’s obviously much stronger as a three year old and showed plenty of ticker to win today,” said Tania Rouse, assistant trainer to Gai Waterhouse.

Assertive Choice was bred at Twin Palms Stud and is by Redoute’s Choice from star producer and Group One winner Assertive Lass, whose previous produce are unbeaten Group One winner Reset and Group Three winner So Assertive.

Knocked down to Waterhouse for $1.3 million at the 2004 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Assertive Choice was the fourth highest priced colt of that year and the first million-dollar yearling sired by Redoute’s Choice.

Assertive Choice is raced by a syndicate, which includes the Marheine family of Stratheden Stud, who still own his grand-dam Sommes Sound (USA), the dam of Assertive Lass and her champion brother Assertive Lad, both of whom were trained by Waterhouse.

Assertive Choice is likely to have one more start as a lead-up to the $1million STC Golden Rose L at the end of next month.
