Golden Rose Target For Lake Geneva

Breeding and Racing - Wednesday, 15th July 2015

Trainer Michael Hawkes has provided an update on talented filly Lake Geneva who is being aimed at the Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on 12 September.

The beautifully bred Lake Geneva, who is part-owned by Coolmore Stud, is probably the best credentialed maiden horse in the country having hitherto failed to win a race despite two excellent Gr1 placings in the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond Stakes.

"She is probably the best maiden in Australia having placed in the Diamond [Blue Diamond] and also the Slipper [Golden Slipper] as well," Hawkes told RSN radio's Shane Anderson.

"She looks fabulous. She looks stronger, has grown a little bit and is ticking over nicely."

He added: "The acceptances for the Golden Rose were today [Tuesday] and she's still there. She will be accepted. She's a lovely filly who has come back super so hopefully we have some exciting times ahead."

Hawkes was unsure when the Fastnet Rock filly would launch her spring campaign, but said she would be ready to trial sometime in the next few weeks.

"She's back in work and will probably step out and trial in the next two three weeks or so," he said.

Coolmore sold Lake Geneva, who is by Fastnet Rock out of Gr2 Reisling Stakes winner Hips Don't Lie, to Hawkes Racing for $1 million at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale but bought back into her after her debut placing in the Gr3 Widden Stakes.
