Flying filly Miss Amajardan can become one of this season’s top juveniles, according to trainer Jenny Graham.
All but unwanted, and eventually knocked down for just $6,500 at this year’s Inglis Scone Select Yearling Sale, Miss Amajardan is a daughter of Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock-Snippets’ Lass), sire of Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement, and one of the hottest stallions in Australia right now.
Having won comfortably over 1000m on debut at Armidale on September 15, Graham had no hesitation bringing the Port Macquarie speed machine to town.
Miss Amajardan faced a massive rise in class, taking on some beautifully bred, expensive youngsters, from stables including John O’Shea (Godolphin), Kris Lees, and Clarry Conners, at Randwick on October 17.
The result was the same, however, Miss Amajardan, under Frenchman Thomas Huet, winning by a length in a sizzling 56.93 seconds, quick enough to break Group 1 winner Sweet Idea’s class record.
That triumph has convinced Graham to raise the bar again, with the $500,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick on December 12 her likely next assignment.
“She’s up there with the best I’ve put a saddle on,” said Graham, who currently has 10 horses in work.
“She’s quite a professional horse. Even though she’s still a bit green, she does everything professionally. She doesn’t stress travelling, she eats well, and she goes well.
“I haven’t had a two-year-old do this so quickly.”
Graham claims Miss Amajardan has come through her Randwick romp in good order, adding: “She travelled home well and licked the bin clean. She handled things very well, very professional.
“She’s going to have a few days in the paddock to freshen her up mentally.”
Miss Amajardan is the second foal of Jahre (by Encosta De Lago–Whatever), a grand-daughter of G3 winner Procrastinate, who produced Group 3 winner A Time For Julia (by Redoute’s Choice), Listed winner Foreplay (by Danehill), five-time South African Group 1 winner Laisserfaire (By Danehill), Listed winner Personify (by Galileo), and Listed winner Time Thief (by Redoute’s Choice). Jahre has a yearling by Smart Missile, and missed this season when served by Charge Forward.
Yarraman Park stallion Hinchinbrook, meanwhile, has made a flying start to his new career. Last season’s leading first season sire by earnings, Hinchinbrook, standing at a fee of 16,500 (including GST), is on track to repeat the dose, currently leading the Australian second season sires list.
