Great Result for Southern Sale in Sires

The Great Southern Weanling Sale took centre stage at Randwick today when the Stuart Webb trained Yosei staged a tough effort to win the Group 1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes.

YOSEI (P$14,500 2008 Great Southern Weanling, 2f Invincible Spirit-Fuji Fairy) had caught the eye when running on in both the VRC Sires and Reisling Trial at Group 2 level, having won easily on debut at Benalla in February.

The filly took another step today and was able to stave off the late challenge of Darley’s raider Skilled.

The 2010 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale will be held in Melbourne on May 17 and 18. Entry Forms can be downloaded HERE

Yosei’s Sires victory is the 19th Group 1 race won by Inglis graduates this season.

Doncaster aspirant BRILLIANT LIGHT (4g Light Fantastic-Trick Taker) continued his rise through the grades when proving too good in the Listed Doncaster Prelude.

The Kerry Parker trained gelding, now the winner of seven races in 14 starts, has a close association with the famous Inglis Newmarket sales ring, having been sold twice as a younger horse.

He was originally sold for just $14,000 at the 2006 Inglis Australian Select Weanling Sale. The following year he returned to the Classic Yearling Sale, where Parker gave $32,000 for him in what has turned out to be a very astute purchase.

Brilliant Light’s dam Trick Taker was also sold at Newmarket, making $380,000 at last year’s Australian Breeding Stock Sale.

The next opportunity to secure a broodmare through Inglis comes up next week, with the 2010 Australian Easter Broodmare Sale.

Inglis graduates opened Derby day on a winning note, with AL DHAFRA ($57,500 2007 Select Weanling, 3g Fusaichi Pegasus-Dubai Dream) winning the Listed Carbine Club Stakes and ZINGALING (P$475,000 2008 Easter, 3f Redoute’s Choice-Done That) taking the Listed PJ Bell.

Al Dhafra was previously runner-up in the G2 Phar Lap Stakes – his lone defeat in six starts to date – while Zingaling is also yet to miss the place in seven outings.
