The opening day of this year’s Great Southern Weanling Sale opened with an average 19% higher than the corresponding session last year.
In all, 148 weanlings were sold today for a gross of $1,698,650 at an average of $11,477. Notably, today’s median was more than double what was achieved on Day 1 in 2009.
“We had good competition for the nicer weanlings today and we were happy with the 81% clearance rate,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.
Every state in Australia was represented on the buying list today, along with a strong contingent of New Zealanders.
Today’s session was topped by a Lonhro colt from the handy Perugino mare Iris In The Glen (pictured), which was offered by Glenwood and secured by Queensland based Boomer Bloodstock for $110,000.
Commands gave Darley stallions a 1-2 for the day, with his colt from Factional secured by Belmont Bloodstock for $72,500.
Belmont Bloodstock went to $60,000 to secure the highest priced filly of the session, Monterey Stud’s Snitzel-Kabushka weanling.
The Weanling session continues from 11am tomorrow and can be viewed on Inglis Sale Day Live
The Broodmare and Bloodstock section commences from 11am on Wednesday.
