Great Southern Momentum Continues

The Weanling session of the Melbourne Great Southern Sale has concluded, with the solid start made yesterday consolidated with another strong clearance rate today taking the sale gross beyond the $2million mark.

"The strong competition which was a feature yesterday continued today and overall it's been an excellent sale," Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

"Good prices were attained across the board and the sale has held up remarkably well. We're delighted with the overall result."

In all, 243 weanlings have been sold this week at a clearance rate of 91% for a gross of $2,127,100. Today's average price of $9,499 lifted the overall sale average to $8,753.

A new sale topping price was attained today, with Erinvale Thoroughbreds selling Lot 179, a colt by young Coolmore stallion Holy Roman Emperor from the family of top stallions Desert King and Maroof for $60,000.

The demand for progeny of former Horse of the Year Lonhro continued, with a colt from Virago selling for $54,000, giving the Darley stallion three of the top four priced weanlings sold over the past two days.

The sale continues tomorrow, with the two day Great Southern Bloodstock Sale.

Top stallion prospect Written Tycoon will open tomorrow's session at 11am. The Group 2 winning son of Iglesia is part of a Supplementary Catalogue of 53 horses for the Bloodstock sessions.

The sale will again be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day Live, with Online bidding for those who cannot attend.

Horses passed in over the past two days are still available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.
