Great Southern Momentum Flows On To Mares

Record selling on Days One and Two of the Great Southern Sale continued onto broodmares as an over all Gross of $3,052,350 was recorded, eclipsing last years figure by a staggering 82%. The market was extremely competitive with a clearance rate of 82%.

Within the space of a handful of lots, Lockyer Thoroughbreds of the ACT went to $240,000 to secure Lot 665, the stakes placed Canny Lad mare Absolute Dream, while North Road Bloodstock also went to $240,000 to record an equal session topping price for Lot 671, the Royal Academy (USA) mare Aiko. Offered by Phoenix Broodmare Farm as agent, Aiko is in foal to leading First Season sire Choisir.

Leading Victorian stud Eliza Park reduction session was topped by Lot 554, the dual stakes winning Desert Sun (GB) mare Moralee (NZ). In foal to Darley's Elusive Quality (USA), the sire of this season's Group One winner Camarilla, the mare was knocked down to Damon Gabbedy's Belmont Bloodstock for $160,000.

Industry participants from Victoria played a major part in today's results, with many respected judges from Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and New Zealand also in the mix for the quality lots on offer.

The sale continues tomorrow, commencing at 10:30am with a further day of Broodmares and Stallions, followed on Friday with Yearlings, Unbroken Stock and Racehorses. A Supplementary catalogue of close to 70 additional racehorses will be available on Friday at the Oaklands office.
