Great Southern Spectacular

12th Jun 2007

The 2007 William Inglis & Son Great Southern Sale is set to play a major part in maintaining the upward spiral of Australia’s leading thoroughbred auctioneering company. There is quality at every level, offering buyers the opportunity to purchase with confidence.

Commencing on Sunday June 24 with two days of weanlings, the sale will resume on Wednesday 27 with three days of broodmares, stallions, racehorses, yearlings and unbroken stock.

An extensive line up of over 450 weanlings sees numerous farms offering many lots of extreme commercial appeal, with David Moodie’s Contract Racing Pty Ltd presenting three outstandingly credentialed weanlings. Lot 13, a Testa Rossa filly, is the final foal of Century mare On Centre Court. A half-sister to Group One Oakleigh Plate winner Miss Kournikova and the Group Three winner Tirade, this filly is sure to set the Oaklands’ sale ring alight early on the first day.

Another highlight is the Dehere (USA) x Princesa colt, the second foal from the dual stakes winning Danehill (USA) mare. Entering the ring as Lot 38, the colt comes from the family of Listed 2YO winner Kaphero and the stakes placed pair of Danehill’s (USA) Wasimah and Keeneland.

The third offering from the draft, Lot 209, is from the first crop of the four time Group One winning Champion European 2YO colt Shamardal (USA). Out of the stakes placed Blazing Aura, the colt is a half-brother to the Tony Cruz trained Hong Kong stakes winner Hello Pretty.

William Inglis & Son Director Peter Heagney feels that, “ the Weanling Sale contains the strongest pedigrees that we have ever assembled in Melbourne. Apart from having weanlings by leading sires Flying Spur, Encosta De Lago, Dehere (USA), Testa Rossa, Rubiton, Choisir, Danehill Dancer (IRE) and General Nediym, it's also exciting to see the first progeny of no less that 13 Group One performed freshman stallions.”

Wednesday through to Friday will include over 400 broodmares in foal to leading stallions such as Flying Spur, Red Ransom (USA), General Nediym, Hussonet (USA), Mossman, More Than Ready (USA) and Elusive Quality (USA), which will be joined by mares in foal to upcoming young stallions including Starcraft (NZ), Fastnet Rock, Exceed And Excel, Elvstroem, God’s Own, Kempinsky and Keep The Faith.

“With mares in the catalogue in foal to some of the best sires in the land I'm sure there will mares to suit everyone's budget,” states Heagney.

One of many highlights is sure to be the Tremon Thoroughbreds offered dual listed winning Flying Spur mare Creative Plan (Lot 744), a three-quarter sister to Hong Kong Group One winner Jeune King Prawn. The winner of five races up to 1600m is in foal to leading sire Encosta de Lago.

Large drafts from leading vendors including Eliza Park who will offer a substantial reduction draft, Lindsay Park, Makybe, Tremon Thoroughbreds, Erinvale Thoroughbreds and Emirates Park are sure to aid in the success of what will be the greatest sale ever held in terms of numbers in Victoria’s thoroughbred history.
