Great Southern Weanling Sale Concludes on similar level

Erinvale Thoroughbreds again led the way as the 2011 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale concluded with figures comparable to 12 months ago.

Early this evening, just short of $3million had been traded on 292 weanlings at an average of $10,238, which is just short of last year’s $10,717 figure.

The clearance rate stands at 80%, although it continues to improve with private sales, highlighted by yesterday’s clearance rate climbing by 3% today.

“We were particularly pleased with the prices achieved by the better quality lots, which attracted serious competition across both days,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“But in keeping with yearling sales across Australia this year, the lower end of the market was much softer.

“Overall though we are very happy with the result and pleased to see the clearance rate hit 80% this evening.”

Erinvale provided yesterday’s sale topping $150,000 Henrythenavigator filly and again provided today’s top priced lot, with an Encosta De Lago colt (pictured, courtesy ANZ Bloodstock News) from the Kris mare Dathiyna selling for $100,000.

Thanks to Sacred Kingdom’s world conquering feats, progeny of Encosta De Lago are in heavy demand in Hong Kong and Apollo Ng was thrilled to snap this colt up today.

Headlined by the two highest priced lots, Erinvale prepared five of the top seven lots over the past two days.

Blue Gum Farm’s colt from the first crop of French Group 1 winner Astronomer Royal sold to Inglis as agent for $90,000 to make him the third highest priced lot of the sale. The colt is from the Street Cry mare Chelsey Cry.

Horses passed in during the weanling sessions are still available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.

The Great Southern Sale continues from 10.30am tomorrow, with the first of two Bloodstock sessions.
