Off the back of a sensational day's selling yesterday, another large crowd was in attendance at Oaklands for the second and final session of the William Inglis & Son Great Southern Weanling Sale. The overall gross of $5,140,550 was up a staggering 42% on last year's sale.
The sale topper was Lot 232, the lone offering by this season's Leading Sire Flying Spur. The bay colt was knocked down to leading buyer Ascot Farm of New Zealand for $240,000. Out of a Bluebird (USA) half-sister to Hong Kong Group One winner Jeune King Prawn and the dual Listed winning Creative Plan, the weanling colt is sure to progress into an exceptional yearling come sale time next year.
Buyers will have the opportunity later in the sale to purchase Chicago Wonder, the dam of the top priced weanling in foal to Danehill Dancer (IRE) who will be offered as Lot 727 in the Broodmare section.
William Inglis & Son Director Peter Heagney felt, “The weanling sale in Victoria has turned the corner with buyers realising that they can purchase a quality weanling from the Melbourne Sale ring.”
Heagney added that, “Yesterday's session was very strong, with today's session providing even stronger results. This has quite simply been the best weanling sale ever held in Victoria.”
Respected judges from New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore as well as every Australian state were among the leading purchasers across the two days of the record breaking sale.
The sale resumes on Wednesday, commencing at 10:30am with three days of Broodmares, Yearlings, Stallions, Unbroken Stock and Racehorses. A Supplementary catalogue of close to 70 additional racehorses will be available on sale day.
Catalogues for the William Inglis & Son Great Southern Sale can be obtained by contacting the Oaklands office on 03 9333 1422 or can be viewed on the William Inglis & Son website.
