Smart two-year-old Northkape proved today that racing is a game that everyone can enjoy, when she lead the whole way to take out the $100,000 Inglis VOBIS Gold Plate at Cranbourne over 1000m on debut, earning $60,000 plus bonuses for her connections.
Bred by Adam Sangster and Limerick Lane, and sold from the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2014 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, Northkape (Kaphero x Northeast Note) was knocked down for $5,000 to the partnership of Sharing Winners, Dean Humphries Bloodstock and her trainer Robbie Griffiths.
“These Inglis bonuses are such an unbelievable incentive, they are just fantastic,” said Griffiths Racing representative Jade Matthews.
After winning a trial earlier this month, the Griffiths Stable were already impressed with the filly's ability and attitude.
“We didn’t quite expect her to be as strong as she was today but she’s always been very professional at home.” added Matthews.
One of the smaller contenders in today's race, Northkape showed her class jumping straight to the front and kicking well on the straight to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
Jockey Craig Newitt was pleased with the performance of his compact ride, saying “She was probably the smallest horse in the field but she had the biggest motor. She has a very bright future.”
Along with prizemoney and bonuses, Northkape has earned her connections some enviable prizes from Swarovski Optiks and Antler Luggage. Griffiths received a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars, and Newitt and the winning connections received great luggage from Antler.
The dam of Northkape, Northeast Note (Stravinsky x Jervaux) in foal to another of Swettenham Stud’s resident sires Americain, will go under the hammer as Lot 466 from their draft on Tuesday, the third day of the 2015 Inglis Great Southern Sale.
Northkape’s half-brother by Americain was sold from the Swettenham Stud draft today as Lot 106 at the Inglis Great Southern Sale for $85,000 to Victoria’s Ampulla Lodge.
The remaining three days of the 2015 Inglis Great Southern Sale will be held from 10.30am 22, 23 and 24 June at Inglis’ Oaklands Complex. The catalogue is available HERE, featuring two mares in foal to Northkape’s sire, Kaphero.
The $100,000 Inglis VOBIS Gold Plate is open to all two-year-olds that were sold or passed in at the Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale.
