Gross Doubles At Inglis Australian Weanling Sale

Thanks to the strong support from vendors and a competitive buying bench, the Select Weanlings at this year’s AWBS Sale grossed $7.026million, doubling the $3.5million grossed in 2009.

A highlight of the Select session was the 86% clearance rate, with 238 weanlings selling at an average of $29,521, a 38% increase on last year.

Today’s top price and the weanling session sale topper was a Fastnet Rock colt from the stakes placed Choisir mare Love's Great offered by Select Bloodstock (pictured), which was secured by Tom Magnier for $230,000.

An Encosta De Lago filly offered by Tamworth based Yashraj Breeding and Racing went to Victorian buyers J & J Anderson for $155,000.

The strong clearance rate continued into the General Session, with 84% of weanlings offered being sold. The General session grossed $292,300, with a Not A Single Doubt colt from Wexford Farm topping the session at $44,000.

It brings the overall Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale sale total over the past three days to just short of $10million.

"This was the third renewal of this sale and it is now firmly entrenched in this timeslot as a premium sale for weanlings and breeding stock," said Inglis Director Jonathan D'Arcy.

"We extended the sale to three days due to outstanding support from vendors and it is very satisfying to see them duly rewarded.

"The New Zealand buying bench assembled here contributed greatly to the success of this sale and we wish them success with their purchases.

"We've had positive feedback from both buyers and vendors throughout the week which we will take on board to assist in growing this sale going forward."

Horses passed in during the sale are all available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.

Newmarket will now host the 2010 Winter Yearling & Racehorse Sale with 178 horses catalogued to be sold this Sunday, June 27.

The sale will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day Live and Online bidding is available for those unable to attend.
