Group 1 Glory Is A Family Affair

Inglis graduates featured heavily with a Group 1 win and several other stakes wins on a wonderful weekend of racing around the country.

It was a family affair for the connections of Inglis Easter graduate Fenway when the three-year-old filly took out the Group 1 ATC Vinery Stud Stakes for jockey Blake Shinn and his step-father and step-brother Lee and Shannon Hope at Rosehill today.

From the family of Denise’s Joy, Fenway (High Chaparral x Deedra) races for Greg White of Alpara Lodge, and was a $700,000 purchase for Colm Santry Bloodstock from the draft of Strawberry Hill Stud at the 2013 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

It was the first Group 1 victory for the training duo that have been in partnership for three years, and Blake Shinn was honoured to be a part of it.

“My first Group 1 for my family it just means so much for my step-dad and step-brother,” said an emotional Shinn.

“I couldn’t do it without them and without all their hard work to get a Group 1 for them means the world to me,” Shinn said.

Other winners today included Last Bullet and The Messina Nymph at Morphettville, and Under The Louvre at Mornington.

Last Bullet (High Chaparral x Beat The Bullet) was a $190,000 purchase from the draft of Coolmore Stud for trainer John Hyam at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. Today the two-year-old colt won his second start in the Group 3 SAJC Breeders’ Stakes at Morphettville.

The Listed SAJC Manihi Classic was taken out by The Messina Nymph (Commands x Charybdis) for trainer Tony McEvoy and Pipeliner Bloodstock. A $30,000 purchase from the 2012 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Widden Stud, the mare has won five of her nine starts and earned over $200,000 in prize money.

Under the Louvre (Excellent Art x Barcelona Girl) won the Listed MRC Hareeba Stakes at Mornington. A $50,000 purchase for Aquanita Racing from the 2012 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Kanangra Stud draft, the four-year-old took his earnings to in excess of $480,000 for his owners and trainer Robert Smerdon.
