Group 1 Treble In Brisbane

Inglis graduates shone in each of the three Group 1 races at Eagle Farm today, with Black Piranha providing a timely pointer for this month’s Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale.

Black Piranha followed Dariana and Pressday in bringing the Inglis Group 1 haul in Australia this season to 27 with their respective Eagle Farm wins.

BLACK PIRANHA ($16,000 2004 Select Weanling, 6g Clang-Jazztrack) became the first horse since the great Rough Habit in 1991-92 to win dual Stradbrokes when coming with a sustained burst to gun down Melito and Mic Mac in a blanket finish.

A successful pinhook, Black Piranha is now the winner of $2.5million.

Buyers and pinhookers have a wonderful opportunity to secure another racetrack or sales star at this month’s Inglis Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale which will be held at Newmarket from June 23-25.

A new sire showcase will precede the sale and then weanlings will be sold on Days 2 and 3 of the sale.

DARIANA ($300,000 2008 Easter, 3f Redoute’s Choice-Beldarian) was the hard luck story of last week’s Oaks, but all was forgiven today as she streeted the boys to win the Queensland Derby.

Offered for sale by Coolmore Stud, she was knocked down to Duncan Ramage. In winning, she became the 260th Group 1 winner for legendary trainer Bart Cummings.

PRESSDAY ($38,000 2009 Classic, 2c Domesday-Kaaptive Empress) kept his unbeaten Brisbane record intact when overwhelming his rivals to win the G1 T.J. Smith.

Sold by Glenarvon Park, Pressday has proven most versatile, sitting on the speed last week, but coming from the rear of the field today. He is now the winner of four races in six starts for earnings topping $600,000.

The result was also a good one for Darley Stud, who stand Pressday’s first crop sire Domesday, himself an Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate.

The top day for Inglis graduates was capped when outstanding prospect ROTHESAY (P$140,000 2008 Easter, 3c Fastnet Rock-Schiaparelli) further underlined his big race potential in strolling away with the Group 2 Queensland Guineas.

Trainer Gerald Ryan has a long term Royal Ascot plan for the colt, but intends to target races like the Toorak Handicap in the spring and if his form warrants it, perhaps a Cox Plate tilt.
