Guineas always the plan for Flying Snitzel

Racing Network - Neale Donnelly - Thursday, 16 May 2013

Gerald Ryan is keen for punters to know Saturday’s $500,000 Inglis Scone Guineas is not an after-thought for his gun filly, Flying Snitzel.

The Group 2 and Group 3 winner was "always going to run in this race” according to Ryan.

This morning he told Racing Network only a campaign that would take in the Oaks was going to prevent her from contesting the Guineas.

“She’s very well and will go into this race fit, strong and very happy,” Ryan told RN.

After a stunning last-to-first win in the Group 3 Kewney Stakes at Flemington on March 9, beating subsequent Group 1 winner Norzita, Flying Snitzel went back to Sydney for the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic.

She ran a creditable 3.8 length eighth to Appearance, after being last of the 14 runners at the 400 metres.

She then ran seventh of nine runners in the Carbine Club after being locked away on the rails.

“Coming to this race is no after-thought.

"I always had it in the back of my mind that this would suit her and I’m sure it does,” he said today.

Flying Snitzel has drawn well in barrier two and Christian Reith will ride the filly on Saturday.

Ryan also has Red Excitement running in the Guineas.

“He’s already won a couple of Inglis bonus races and the owners were going to spell him, but we decided on Monday that you don’t get the chance to run in races worth $500,000 very often, and even if you run eighth you get $10,000,” Ryan said.
