Guineas' and Derbies await following key lead-up success

A trio of star Inglis 3YOs appear set for big spring campaigns – and a pair of 4YO Zoustar sprinters could be destined for G1 glory – following another dominant day for Inglis graduates at Stakes level.

Talented 3YOs Dalasan, Wayupinthesky and Just Thinkin’ all firmed significantly in TAB markets for feature Melbourne spring G1 races on the back of big wins in key lead-up races today.

The Inglis Premier star Dalasan (Dalakhani) – bred by the Toorak Thoroughbred Breeding Trust - firmed into a dominant Caulfield Guineas favourite following a strong win in the G2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington.

Coming off a WFA victory over subsequent G1 winner Scales of Justice in Adelaide at his most recent start, Dalasan returned to 3YO company today and proved too powerful, firming into a $5 Guineas chance with TAB in the process ahead of fellow Inglis stars Castelvecchio, Kubrick and Super Seth at $11 each.

Dalasan (pictured), in whom breeder Harry Perks has retained a share in the ownership, was purchased by his trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas for $80,000 at Inglis Premier, from the Mill Park Stud draft.

“We’ll go to the Guineas Prelude next and I think he’ll just get better and better with racing,’’ Macdonald said.

“I have no concerns, none whatsoever, about him getting a mile in the Guineas. He’s a nice horse.’’

Wayupinthesky (Snitzel) scored a valuable maiden Stakes victory at just her fourth career start with a dominant display down the Flemington straight in winning the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes.

It was a third consecutive victory for the ultra-talented Peter and Paul Snowden-trained 3YO filly, which was bred by Greg and Barb Ingham.

She will be set for the G1 Thousand Guineas, for which she is now an $8 equal favourite with TAB.

Wayupinthesky is a $400,000 Inglis Easter buy for Kitchwin Hills from the Arrowfield Stud draft.

And Just Thinkin’ (So You Think) firmed into $10 second favourite for the G1 Victoria Derby following an all-the-way win in the Listed Dulcify Stakes at Randwick.

The 3YO is a three-quarter brother to Stakes winners Stampede and Thinkin’ Big and looks set to add more black type to his already impressive resume.

Bred by Peter and June Dunn of Dodmark Thoroughbreds, Just Thinkin’ is an Inglis Easter graduate where he was offered by Coolmore.

Meanwhile Inglis Easter-sold Zoustar sprinters Mizzy (bred by Rob Crabtree) and Zoutori (bred by Frank Meduri) both scored fighting G2 victories for their respective connections.

Mizzy, a $200,000 buy for her trainer Anthony Cummings from Segenhoe Stud’s draft, made it back-to-back Stakes wins, backing up her Toy Show Quality victory three weeks ago with a narrow but tough win in today’s Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill.

And Zoutori returned from a spell to secure a fifth career success – and first at Stakes level - with victory down the Flemington straight in the G2 Bobbie Lewis Quality.

He is a $160,000 Easter buy for his trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, from the draft of Amarina Farm.
