The first slice of the pie; the first opportunity for buyers to purchase New Zealand Guineas winners Atlante and Costa Viva was at an Inglis Select Yearling Sale in 2012.
The first of the three-year-old classics, the Gr.1 NZ 2000 Guineas for colts and geldings, was won by Atlante (Fastnet Rock-Readyforcatherine) at Riccarton on Saturday 9 November 2013.
Atlante was bought for $170,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Lyndhurst Farm NZ when offered by his breeder, Reavill Farm NSW.
Completing the classic double in the Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas for fillies was Costa Viva (Encosta de Lago-Vivacious Spirit) last Saturday. Short priced Easter graduate Bounding (Lonhro-Believe’n’Succeed) made it an Inglis quinella in 1600m event when finishing in second place.
Costa Viva was purchased by Colm Santry Bloodstock for $90,000 from the Tarcoola Stud draft on behalf of breeders Ken Williams and Ken Biggins at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
After being originally purchased at Inglis Select Yearling Sales both Group 1 winners, Atlante and Costa Viva, were then resold later that year providing their new owners with what has turned out to be a handsome slice of the pie.
The first opportunity presented to yearling buyers in 2014 is the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale – Summer Book. The catalogue is now available online at HERE and for download on the Inglis Sales iPad App HERE
