John O’Shea had no luck with both of his Caulfield Cup runners being scratched today, but his stable did receive some compensation at Randwick, with improving three-year-old Gujju picking off a $100,000 Inglis Race Series bonus.
Gujju gained an inside run to win the Sharp Inglis Bonus (1600m) from Howdiddydoit and $1.4million Easter colt Light Brigade.
GUJJU ($65,000 2009 Premier, 3g Street Cry-Genuine Halo) was coming off a last start Kembla maiden win and O’Shea will be hoping his career can follow the same trajectory as Zabrasive, who ran third in this same race 12 months ago, before going on to win the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas.
Sold by Kulani Park, Gujju is from the Don’t Say Halo mare Genuine Halo, a half-sister to WA Group 3 winner Destino.
The $2.6million Inglis Race Series heads south next Saturday for the running of the $250,000 Inglis Banner for two-year-olds over 1000m at Moonee Valley.
Previously known as the Inglis Juvenile, the race has been renamed this year in honour of the inaugural winner Starspangledbanner, the $120,000 Premier graduate who became a global sprinting star this year.
The next opportunity in the series for three-year-old graduates is the $250,000 Inglis Trophy at Sale this coming Sunday October 24 over 1400m.
