Half-Brother To Guineas Winner Highlights Strong NZ Contingent at Easter

Today’s Group 1 Rosehill Guineas win by Zabeel gelding Zabrasive was a timely reminder of the success New Zealand breeders have had with horses sold out of the Easter Sale.

Haunui Farm will offer an O’Reilly half-brother to Zabrasive as Lot 369 at the upcoming 2010 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Haunui, who have a draft of seven for the sale, are joined by Little Avondale, Lyndhurst Farm, Rich Hill, Trelawney and Waikato Stud in offering some of New Zealand’s best bred yearlings to a global buying bench at this year’s Easter sale.

Windsor Park’s Champion dual Australian Horse of the Year winner Might And Power, who cost just $40,000, is a shining example of the type of horse the Kiwis bring to Australia.

Last season, Group 1 winning Easter graduates included Waikato Stud’s dual winners Vision And Power and Metal Bender, Trelawney’s Sousa and Cambridge Stud’s Cox Plate hero Maldivian.

“New Zealand breeders have a wonderful record in Australia and continue to be great supporters of our sale. We are proud that many of their recent stars have been sold at Easter,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.

“The fact we have a half sibling to Zabrasive underlines how we have another very strong contingent of New Zealand horses heading to the sale again this year. Add that to the very best Australia has to offer and buyers are sure to find a horse that fits every criteria in 2010.”

Zabrasive and Australian Guineas winning Easter graduate Rock Classic staged a thrilling dual over the concluding stages of the Guineas.

Patinack Farm have an Encosta De Lago half-sister to Rock Classic as Lot 575 at this year’s Easter sale.

Earlier, MESSENGER ($300,000 2007 Easter, 4m Choisir-Angel In Disguise) added to the Easter stakes tally when winning the Listed Epona Stakes. The Edinglassie graduate was a stakes winner earlier in the season at Gosford.

BRILLIANT LIGHT ($32,000 2007 Classic, 4g Fantastic Light-Trick Taker) gave Inglis a stakes winning double at Rosehill when getting a photo finish verdict over Easter G3 winner Centennial Park in the G2 Ajax Stakes, taking his record to six wins in just 13 starts. Brilliant Light’s dam Trick Taker was sold for $380,000 at last year’s Inglis Australian Breeding Stock Sale.

The 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be held at Newmarket from April 6-8.

Sirecam videos and photos of yearling are also now online.
