Trainer David Hayes harbours Group I ambitions for Forgive And Forget following an impressive debut win in Saturday’s Carbine Club 2YO Plate (1000m) at Flemington.

Forgive And Forget settled in second place, just off the quarters of Francesca Eagle and always travelled strongly for Dwayne Dunn.

When the tempo lifted 400 metres out Forgive And Forget ($8) took a narrow lead and was then ridden out hands and heels to hold Husson Eagle ($1.90 fav.) by three-quarters of a length with Hi World ($13) running on late to fill third, a half-head away.

Forgive And Forget completed the 1000 metres in 57.64 seconds on a track rated dead (4).

Trainer David Hayes said Forgive And Forget had shown plenty of ability but had taken a little time to develop.

"He’s been shinsore and then we decided it would be best to geld him as he’s a big strong horse, but he has always shown good ability,” Hayes said.

Having won on debut Hayes revealed the son of Tale The Cat, who cost $100,000 as a yearling at the Inglis Australian Easter Sale, will now be sent to the spelling paddock to preparae for the spring.

"I’d like to think he’s a Caulfield Guineas type, he has done that well and he’s always indicated that he will be better over a bit further so he’s a nice prospect," Hayes said.
