17th May 2011
The 2011 Inglis Great Southern Sale opened at Oaklands today, with the first of two weanling sessions, where a Henrythenavigator filly starred to better the top price from last year’s sale.
In all, 136 weanlings sold today for a gross of $1,535,800.
The average of $11,293 was on a par with last year, although the 76% clearance rate was below the mark set 12 months ago. However, the figure is improving, with a number of horses already sold privately late this afternoon.
This is the first crop of former star European three-year-old Henrythenavigator and his filly from the Danehill mare Let’s Get Famous topped the session at $150,000 out of the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft.
Let’s Get Famous is an unraced daughter of Australian Horse of the Year and 1991 Caulfield-Melbourne Cups winner Let’s Elope.
Erinvale also provided the day’s second highest priced lot with a daughter of Henrythenavigator, with their filly from stakes winning Bluebird mare Ladybird Blue selling to Darrell Ible Bloodstock for $75,000.
Fillies by Testa Rossa, Rock Of Gibraltar and Lonhro also topped the $50,000 mark today.
Horses passed in during today’s session are still available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.
The second session of the weanling sale will start from 10.30am tomorrow and this session will also include the Supplementary entries.
The Great Southern Bloodstock Sale then runs on Thursday and Friday.
