High hopes for $100,000 Inglis Bonus winner

The opportunity to aim higher awaits the connections of High Esteem after the three-year-old put on an impressive performance over 1700m at Caulfield on Saturday to claim a $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus.

High Esteem ($850,000 2011 Easter, 3c Redoute’s Choice-Park Esteem) had attempted the Group 1 Australian Guineas two starts back, but the quick jump in grade was a bit too much for the inexperienced colt. Back to Saturday class today the son of Redoute’s Choice bounced straight the front and never gave his opposition a chance, careering away to a lucrative three length win.

The connections of High Esteem net $148,000 for today’s victory when adding the $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus available to nominated horses such as the winner to the $48,000 first place prizemoney.

Peter Moody’s stable foreman James Horton was positive that High Esteem’s recent back-to-back wins will place the three-year-old in a good mindset to attack black type events in the coming months.

“He’s showed us plenty at home, that’s why we went to the Guineas. It just didn’t quite work out for him,” said Horton.

“He’s gone back to Sale for a nice win and then come here and done it very nicely.

“Black type is where this fella is going to go now. He’ll probably either go for a trip to Adelaide or up to Sydney,” Horton added.

Jockey Daniel Stackhouse hadn’t planned on leading on High Esteem, but once in front the galloper settled into stride and stayed on like a progressive horse on the rise.

“He’s always promised us a lot. I never expected to lead but he kept bowling along well so I just let him stride. I think he’ll stay all day, he get gets the trip fine so it’s onwards and upwards,” Stackhouse said.

Today’s $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus win follows right on the tail of the Stephen Theodore trained Road Trippin claiming a $50,000 Bonus on the Albury Guineas yesterday.

There are many other Inglis Race Series events coming up in the next few months in both Victoria and New South Wales.
