Hot Danish – The darling’s back

Racenet - Clinton Payne - Saturday, 18 September 2010

“Simple as that” is how Tim Clark described the first-up win by Hot Danish in the Group II Premiere Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Sydney’s most popular galloper toyed with her rivals with Clark sitting quietly aboard Hot Danish in the lead until the final 250 metres when he asked her to go, then she careered away from her rivals to the cheers of the Rosehill crowd.

“When she came in this time it was almost like she started where she left off,” Hot Danish’s trainer Les Bridge said. “That’s how good she’s been going.

“She’s amazing for her age. I can’t believe her reflexes are as good now, or better, as when she was a three-year-old.”

To the delight of the Australian Jockey Club, Bridge said after the race that Hot Danish would remain in Sydney to run in the Group II The Shorts at Randwick on Epsom day, October 2.

The seven-year-old mare will then head to Melbourne for a possible shot at the Group I Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) on November 6.

“I’d like to have a go at the Myer [Classic – 1600m], but my heart tells me to keep doing what’s working for you,” Bridge said.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Trader chased the winner home and his jockey Glyn Schofield thought for a fleeting second he might challenge Hot Danish.

“I thought I was going to give her a run for a couple of strides,” Schofield said. “I actually got to her girth and Timmy [Clark] went click, click and away she went.”

Back in third place was Cardinal Virtue while Hinchinbrook finished back near the tail of the field.

“He never travelled at all,” Hinchinbrook’s jockey Brenton Avdulla, said. “He was gone along way out.”
