I Am A Star Eyeing Spring Features

Trainer Shane Nichols has confirmed that promising filly I Am A Star (I Am Invincible-Star Band, by Dixieland Band) will be spelled and aimed at some of the feature fillies races in the spring.

The well-bred 2YO boosted her value considerably when registering a maiden black-type success in last weekend's Gr3 National Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

"There's nothing really for her here now and it's a big ask to go to Queensland," Nichols said.

"Today we thought was a softer option than waiting till the spring in Melbourne to get some stakes form. Now that we've got that out of the way we can look at the fillies races in the spring."

Nichols said he felt I Am A Star will have no trouble stepping up in distance.

"I had her sister Band On The Run and thought she'd run a mile and this filly is a better horse than her," he said.

"We'll aim high and see how we go. This is a pretty good filly. I don't know how good but we'll find out in the spring."

Originally purchased for NZ$12,000 at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale, I Am A Star was then sold for $40,000 to James Harron Bloodstock at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Broadwater Thoroughbreds.

From the unraced US-bred mare Star Band (Dixieland Band), I Am A Star is a direct descendant of celebrated blue hen Fanfreluche, ancestress of Gr1 winners and star Australian sires Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago.
