28th Oct 2006
Following a very well attended Breeze Up session on Thursday at Oaklands, today’s Breeze Up Sale enjoyed strong bids from both domestic and international buying benches. International representatives from the Philippines, Korea, Macau and Hong Kong were keen participants.
A total of 82 lots were sold for an average price of $23,506. The sale achieved a gross of $1,927,500 and a healthy 70% clearance rate.
Due to Invincible Spirit’s first crop success in Europe, attention was focused on his progeny in the ring today. Aquanita Racing paid $120,000 for lot 46, an Invincible Spirit colt from Widden Stud who ran a speedy 10.52 on Thursday. The colt was sold at the 2006 Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale for $20,000, before his sire had become leading first crop sire of Europe.
Commands has enjoyed considerable success in the last three months and his sole offering, lot 74, breezed impressively on Thursday in the time of 10.82. Vendor Bay Meadows Thoroughbreds had a very successful sale achieving the second highest price of $110,000 for this Commands colt which they purchased for $50,00 at the 2006 Classic Sale in Sydney. The colt was sold today to Anton Koolman Bloodstock.
The horse that recorded the fastest time on Thursday, lot 32 by Testa Rossa was the subject of fierce competition on the ring before being bought by Macau’s leading trainer Gary Moore for $100,000. The colt breezed up in an impressive time of 10.18 seconds. The colt was sold as a yearling in the 2006 Premier Sale for $30,000.
Director, Peter Heagney said “ Vendors are to be congratulated on offering some very well educated and well presented horses. There has been a noticeable improvement in the standard of horses since the first sale in 2004. Horses which galloped well on Thursday sold appropriately today and whilst buyers were discerning in what they bought, many vendors were delighted with their results.
The clearance rate of 70% was a marked improvement on the 62% achieved last year.
With the establishment of our own Breeze Up track at Oaklands we are committed to ensuring the continued success of this type of sale in the future.”
