Inglis Announce 2010 Sale Dates

After lengthy consultation with both vendors and buyers, Inglis has announced sale dates for 2010, with a few minor changes made for the upcoming year.

The three major yearling sales have been evenly spaced five weeks apart to help vendors that support all three sales.

The Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be held over three days from Tuesday April 6 through Thursday April 8.

"After widespread feedback we've scheduled the sale on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between Golden Slipper and Derby Day,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.

"We will continue with the highly successful Easter Part 2 session of approximately 100-120 yearlings on the Thursday afternoon."

“This gives buyers the Sunday and Monday following the Slipper to zero in on their shortlists and will ensure consistency in the selling days in the long term by avoiding the four day Easter weekend in some years."

The Inglis sales season will kick off with the Sydney Classic Yearling Sale, to be held on January 24 and 25.

"The strong preference has been for 2 days of selling and given we are at the peak of daylight saving we can accommodate this,” Webster said.

Melbourne’s Premier Sale will again be held over four consecutive days, beginning on March 1.

"This sale is now attracting a wider reaching buying bench and at the request of many visitors to the sale, we have scheduled the sale to begin on a Monday,” Webster said.

“With major race meetings in Australasia on the Saturday, as well as Hong Kong and Singapore racing on Sundays, it caters for those markets."

The Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale has been set down for April 22 and 23, while the Scone Yearling Sale is on May 13, keeping the Thursday slot that proved so popular this year and in 2008.

The Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale has now established its place as an important sale late in the racing season and the 2010 renewal has been scheduled for June 24 and 25.

"The introduction of this late season sale has attracted top quality dispersals in both years, as well as also proving ideally placed logistically for vendors preparing weanlings,” Webster said.

The 2009 sales season continues with the 2009 Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale, to be held at Newmarket on Thursday June 25 and Friday June 26.

The sale will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day live, with Online Bidding and Make an Offer for those buyers not able to attend the sale.

Inglis will then host Thoroughbred sales in Sydney (July 3) and Melbourne (August 14), ahead of the Scone Broodmare Sale on August 28.
