Inglis Announce New Australian Racehorse Sale

Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster today announced the launch of an exciting new sale to meet an increasing local and international demand for ready made racehorses, The Australian Racehorse Sale. This new sale will be held in Melbourne on Sunday November 15 and will feature sessions for unraced two-year-olds in training, tried geldings and colts, tried fillies and mares and unraced stock. Using the latest in video technology, it will quickly become the leading sale in the Southern Hemisphere for ready made racehorses, in a similar way the Tattersalls July Sale.

The Australian Racehorse Sale will be a completely different format to current breeze up and horses in training sales and better suited to market needs. “The racing world has changed dramatically over the past 20 years and we need to change with. There is already considerable demand for tried racehorses in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the Middle East. If racing goes ahead in China this demand will increase dramatically and we need to be prepared. Technology gives us the opportunity to respond to this demand. We will load detailed race form and video footage onto the Inglis website to promote each horse entered in the sale. For tried horses, we will make available recent race footage. For unraced horses will load trial footage if available, but won’t be enforcing timed 200m gallops. For young horses that have not trialled and are still in the early stages of their training, we will send a camera crew to designated training tracks to film their track work 3-4 weeks before the sale. Young horses will be filmed doing their normal track work routine. They may canter or work at three quarter pace to show prospective buyers their movement. Trainers have told me they’d like to put the polish on young horses and this format gives them that opportunity,” commented Mark Webster.

The Australian Racehorse Sale will be held towards the end of the Spring Carnival in Melbourne to maximise entries and fit with the busy schedule for Asian based trainers. Inglis will actively recruit promising tried race horses from all over Australia to enter this sale. “Our goal is to assemble a quality catalogue of promising racehorses to ensure this becomes a must attend annual event for local, Asian and Middle Eastern based trainers, owners and agents. The Tattersalls July Sale has become the primary source for tried stayers, our goal is to become the major source of tried and potential sprinter milers.”

To assist vendors during difficult times, Inglis will provide free entry to The Australian Racehorse Sale for yearlings that are passed in at any of the Inglis Yearling Sales in 2009. Inglis will also offer travel incentives to assist international buyers to attend this sale.
