Inglis Babies Dominate Sydney features

A blue-blood and an absolute bargain took centre stage in today’s Randwick two-year-old features.

SATIN SHOES ($700,000 2010 Easter, 2f Flying Spur-Star Satire) looked one of the sharpest two-year-olds to have raced in Sydney pre-Christmas and punters rallied to send her out a $1.28 favourite.

Hugh Bowman was able to nurse the filly over the rise and she then showed a neat turn of foot to win comfortably on the line.

Trainer Clarry Conners is yet to set her program in stone, but he has eyes only for the Golden Slipper and those that took the $17 last week would be on reasonably good terms with themselves.

The filly was secured on behalf of owner Dr Edmund Bateman by De Burgh Equine from the draft of leading Scone nursery Cressfield.

Conners said he would consider a start in the Blue Diamond but regardless of where he heads next, he tipped huge improvement.

“She’s still pretty gross, she has a long way to go yet and touch wood she’ll hold together,” he said.

DIAMOND TO PEGASUS ($7000 Winter Thoroughbred, 2g Fusaichi Pegasus-Exo) was plucked out of the Princes Farm draft by trainer Tony Sergi, who has taken the youngster from a maiden Moruya win to stakes success.

Diamond To Pegasus withstood a protest to land the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m). He had already won double his purchase price prior to today, but the Fusaichi Pegasus youngster has now earned 10 times his purchase price.

Sergi is yet to map out a program for his bargain priced star.

“His times at home have been sensational so I did expect him to run a good race,” he said.
