This Saturday night marks the much anticipated return of star Wallaby flanker Rocky Elsom against New Zealand’s All Blacks in a bid to revive Australia’s Tri Nations hopes. In his absence a new generation of international sporting stars have been running the ball up for Australia, those being of the equine kind.
Inglis bloodstock have dominated this season’s juvenile and classic contests in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, by weight of champion performers and Group One winners.
The Inglis bloodstock tri nation charge was led by Champion New Zealand 2YO The Heckler and South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt Musir – both G1 winners in their respective countries – and ably supported by three-year-olds Tell A Tale winning the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas and Le Drakkar claiming the G1 Cape Guineas in South Africa.
Meanwhile in front of the home crowd, Reward For Effort and Onemorenomore made it four successive seasons where Inglis was the only company to have multiple G1 2YO winners, while Samantha Miss, Metal Bender, Whobegotyou and Sousa will vie for Champion honours in the Classic generation, a feat achieved by Inglis graduates in every season since 2002.
Those two and three-year-old successes provided a platform upon which older graduates could build and the numbers were again in abundance last season. Well capped Group 1 stars like Takeover Target, Pompeii Ruler, Typhoon Zed, Mentality, Forensics and reigning Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler all returned to add to their tally in 2008-09, while the likes of Vision And Power, Black Pirahna, Littorio, All Silent, Newport and Russeting also starred in Group 1 company.
When the siren sounded at the end of the 2008-09 season, Inglis bloodstock chalked up 24 victories in Australian Group 1 races – eight clear of its nearest sales rival, while on the international stage, Inglis’ reputation as being the only sales company to have sold horses to have won Group 1 races in each of the UK, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore South Africa and New Zealand was further re-enforced with another big international haul over the past 12 months.
The aforementioned two and three-year-old quartet were joined by KrisFlyer Sprint winner Sacred Kingdom and Inspiration, who maintained Inglis’ reputation as the number one source of G1 Hong Kong International Sprint winners.
“Group 1 racing is the pinnacle of our sport and to once again have our company heading that list is a great honour,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.
“We were the leading source of stakes wins in two-year-old races last season as well, so we are well placed to maintain our mantle as the Group 1 market leader”.
“With these results, breeders who entrust us with the sale of their best horses can be assured that the buyers will again travel from far and wide for the Inglis sales next year.”
