Inglis Fillies Charge Home at Flemington

Charge Forward filly Headway became the first individual Group 1 winner for her sire on a day where inaugural Easter Part II Sale graduate Faint Perfume stamped herself as a dominant favourite for next Thursday's G1 VRC Oaks.

In the first leg of a Group 1 double for trainer Peter Moody, HEADWAY ($175,000 2008 Easter, 3f Charge Forward-Chatelaine) was able to get up in the last stride to take the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The win continues an excellent season for Tony Santic and his Makybe operation. Three weeks back, The Makybe bred and sold Starspangledbanner took out the G1 Caulfield Guineas. Today he celebrated as an owner, having purchased Headway out of Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm draft at Easter last year.

Headway has been a wonderful ambassador for her Arrowfield based sire, having won dual stakes races before placing in the G1 Golden Slipper last season. She was twice runner-up in stakes grade earlier this campaign, but landed the all-important Group 1 victory down the Flemington straight today.

Derby Day has held fond memories for Moody since he won the signature race with Amalfi in 2001 and the Caulfield-based trainer later made it a double celebration with Red Ransom mare Typhoon Tracy, who won the G1 Myer Classic with ridiculous ease.

Earlier, the Bart Cummings 2009 Spring Carnival juggernaut rolled on, with FAINT PERFUME (P$40,000 2008 Easter Part II, 3f Shamardal-Zona) taking a vice-like grip on G1 VRC Oaks favouritism following her dominant win in the G2 Wakeful Stakes.

In winning, Faint Perfume emulated her grand dam Danendri, who won this race for Cummings in 1996 before going on to become a dual Group 1 winner later in the season.

The win by Faint Perfume was some compensation for Darley's Shamardal, who had pre-post Victoria Derby favourite Shamoline Warrior withdrawn from the race this morning.

Inglis rounded out a Derby Day Group race treble when the David Payne trained CENTENNIAL PARK (P$140,000 2007 Easter, 4g Thorn Park-Trephina) took out the G3 AAMI Business Insurance Stakes to conclude the day.

It is Centennial Park's second win at stakes level and completed a wonderful afternoon for vendor Windsor Park Stud, who stand not only Thorn Park, but Derby winning sire High Chaparral.
