Inglis Flag Flies in Another Guineas

Starspangledbanner became the sixth Inglis-sold winner of the Caulfield Guineas in the past eight runnings with a sustained display of speed in the Melbourne Racing Club's 1600m feature today.

Bred by Tony Santic's Emily Krstina Syndicate and sold through his Makybe draft, STARSPANGLEDBANNER ($120,000 2008 Premier, 3c Choisir-Gold Anthem) led home an Inglis Melbourne Premier sale quinella, with the consistent Carrara ($200,000 2008 Premier) continuing his outstanding spring with a brave second.

Starspangledbanner becomes the first Group 1 winner for Coolmore stallion Choisir, a $55,000 Inglis Classic graduate who ran third in this race in 2002.

Inglis graduates have dominated the $1million 1600m Caulfield Classic since 2002.

Starspangledbanner was purchased by Newmarc Bloodstock and is prepared by Leon Corstens.

That combination set the ball rolling for Inglis graduates this decade when winning with HELENUS ($80,000 Easter, Helissio-Worldwide Elsie) in 2002.

The following year, IN TOP SWING ($50,000 Classic, Beautiful Crown-Holbrook Lass) added to the tally and in 2005 GOD'S OWN ($220,000 Classic, Redoute’s Choice-Angel In Disguise) gave Classic another victory with his off-the-canvas stunner.

WHOBEGOTYOU ($19,500, Classic, Street Cry-Temple Of Peace), a Group 1 winner of the Yalumba Stakes today, gave Classic a third win for the decade with his easy victory 12 months ago.

WEEKEND HUSSLER ($80,000 Premier, Hussonet-Weekend Beauty) preceded Starspangledbanner as a winner of the prestigious race for the Melbourne Premier Sale when he dominated in 2007.
