INGLIS GRADUATES ARE JUST CAPITAL

23rd Feb 2008

Sarthemare continued the great weekend of results for Inglis Sale graduates when she led home an Inglis 1,2,3 in Sunday’s $206,500 AAMI Black Opal Stakes in fine style at Canberra. Although fellow Inglis graduate De Lightning Ridge was the hot favourite, Sarthemare made all the running to score on just her third race start. Typhoon Fury ($70,000 Classic Yearling sale, 2 f Hurricane Sky – Kuri Bay) ran on strongly in the straight to take second place ahead of De Lightning Ridge ($260,000 Australian Easter Yearling sale, 2 f Tale Of The Cat – Nanny Maroon) who was ridden from off the speed here and had to settle for third.

SARTHEMARE ($12,000 2007 Classic Yearling sale, 2 f Street Cry – City Liffey) is trained at Queanbeyan by Neville Layt and she has proved a fine investment, having earned $139,300 from her three race starts and she is now a stakes winner, so her residual value is assured once her racetrack career is over.

Consigned for sale by Meringo Stud of Takeover Target fame, Sarthemare becomes the first stakes winner in Australia for her Group 1 winning sire Street Cry, the sire of 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.

Earlier in the day and astute horseman Rick Worthington produced STEEL GIANT ($160,000 2006 Australian Easter Yearling sale, 3 c Carnegie – Vonanne) to land the Canberra Guineas in impressive style. Steel Giant has been patiently handled by Worthington and he boasts a record of four wins and a placing from his five starts to date. Worthington has ambitious plans for Steel Giant, indicating that a tilt at the Royal Randwick Guineas (Gr 1) on March 29 is on the cards for his promising colt.

Street Cry has three lots catalogued for the Melbourne Premier Sale that commences next Sunday on March 2 while his Darley companion Carnegie is also represented by three entries at Oaklands.
