Inglis graduates deliver plenty of cheer on Boxing Day

Inglis graduates celebrated the festive season in style delivering plenty of cheer to their connections on Boxing Day winning the Group 3 ATC Summer Cup, Listed SAJC Christmas Handicap and Listed MRC Christmas Stakes across Australia.

I’m Imposing (Danehill Dancer x On Fair Stage) won his second consecutive Group 3 ATC Summer Cup over 2000m in Sydney for champion trainer Chris Waller, who purchased the winner for $100,000 from the Hudson Conway Racing (Lloyd & Nick Williams) annual reduction draft at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Select Racehorse Sale.

The gelding became the first horse to win the summer staying race back-to-back since 1928-29 and carrying 59kg he became only the second horse in more than 100 years to successfully carry more than 57.5kg to win a Summer Cup.

“It’s a good effort, just a great horse and obviously a great group of owners. I’m already looking forward to next preparation. I would probably look at races like the Hollindale and Doomben Cup in the winter,” said Chris Waller

I’m Imposing has won over $420,000 since being purchased from the Inglis sale ring for his large group of owners R C Callander, Down With Gamblor Racing (Mgr: A Francis), Good Punting (Mgr: S J Cox), P B Kerwick, Royal Hurstville (Mgr: P Martin), F G Ingram, F Mittiga, T Mittiga, P B Wootton, F Mittiga & G Pizzinga.

Boristar (Commands x Quillionaire) claimed South Australia’s feature race on Boxing Day, the Listed SAJC Christmas Handicap over 1400m at Morphettville in Adelaide.

The John MacMillian trained favourite won the event by a length and a quarter to take his career prizemoney to $220,700 thanks to nine wins and three placings from 22 starts. "This is my first Listed win, I couldn't tell you how many seconds and thirds I've had, I've lost count," said John MacMillan.

"It's a relief, honest to goodness if he hadn't won it, I was starting to think I'll never win one. I didn't stop yelling until he was home.”

Boristar was bred by T J & J A Hughes Racing and sold twice through Inglis sales as a younger horse, firstly to Belmont Bloodstock as a weanling for $25,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2010 Inglis Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale. The son of Commands then made $50,000 to the bid of managing-owner Ross Webb when offered through Edinglassie Stud’s draft in Session II of the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

MacMillan indicated that Boristar would now head towards the Listed VRC Chester Manifold Stakes at Flemington in January before a possible freshen up for the Adelaide carnival.

Bargain weanling purchase Tried And Tired (Niello x Yawn) took his prizemoney earnings to $268,000 with victory in the Listed MRC Christmas Stakes over 1200m at Sandown in Victoria.

Tried And Tried was bred by R Pietrykowski and sold for $1,700 to current owner Neville Phillips from the draft of Chatswood Stud at the 2010 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale. The Boxing Day victory was Tried And Tired’s seventh win from 15 career starts under trainers Leon & Troy Corstens.

"He jumped well, travelled comfortably outside the leader then drew clear in the concluding stages. It was an impressive win. He gave me such a good kick,” said 17-year-old winning jockey Chris Parnham of Tried And Tired.

Leon Corstens said he may look to next month’s Chester Manifold Stakes for Tried And Tired, which would mean a clash with fellow Inglis graduate and Boxing Day stakes winner Boristar.

The second stakes race at Sandown on Friday was the Listed MRC Master Yearlings Heat 2 Stakes. The 1600m event was won by Jacquinot Bay, which has a half-brother by So You Think entered for the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on 7, 8 & 9 April next year.

The 2015 sales season kicks off with the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book in Sydney on 8, 9 & 10 February.

The 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne will then be conducted on 1, 2, 3 & 4 March.
