Headed by equal favourite Rostova, Inglis graduates – aiming to win the race for a seventh time this decade - dominate acceptances for this Saturday’s G1 $1M Blue Diamond Stakes.
Of the 13 runners for Saturday’s 1200m test of two-year-old speed, nine were sold at auction and of those, eight were sold by Inglis.
The Melbourne Premier Sale, with the 2009 renewal to be held at Oaklands from March 1-4, has three runners, headed by unbeaten Testa Rossa filly Rostova ($70,000).
She is joined by Inglis Juvenile winner Starspangledbanner ($120,000) and Blue Diamond Preview winner Reward For Effort ($190,000).
The Mick Price trained Corsaire was withdrawn from last year’s Premier and not offered for sale.
Easter is responsible for the other five Inglis runners, with Redoute’s Choice filly Come Hither ($1.1million) considered the best chance to give the sale a third win in four years in Victoria’s Premier test of juvenile speed.
The David Hayes trained Bawaardi ($1.3million) is joined by the fillies Maka Ena ($450,000), Rose Darmore ($180,000)and Irish Lights ($230,000) in rounding out the Easter quintet.
Triple figure chance Perikon, sold in New Zealand, was the only other Diamond acceptor offered for sale.
Though Classic is not represented in this year’s race, it provided Inglis graduates with a trio of wins in the early part of the decade.
2000 upset winner Road To Success ($18,000) was followed by the filly True Jewels ($28,000) and the short priced favourite Bel Esprit ($9000) as Classic graduates to win the race.
Champion filly Alinghi ($80,000) was a star Premier graduate, while Nadeem ($700,000) and Reaan ($375,000) have come through the Easter Sale, meaning six of the seven Blue Diamond winners this decade to have been sold at public auction have been Inglis graduates.
