Inglis Graduates Dominate Racehorse Awards

3rd Aug 2006

Only the mighty mare Makybe Diva could stand in the way of a clean sweep of Champion Racehorse Awards by Inglis graduates last night at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium.

It comes as no surprise to see the globetrotting sprinter, Takeover Target (2003, Inglis Winter Thoroughbred Sale, $1,250) as the only horse to register multiple votes in the William Inglis & Son Champion Sprinter Award, while the Joe Janiak trained star also comfortably won the IRT Champion International Performer Award.

Janiak said that the night’s victories were a highlight of an amazing season.

``We couldn’t have asked him to do any more than he did and hopefully he’s got a few more wins in store yet.’’ he said.

Takeover Target wasn’t alone in claiming victory at the Melbourne Crown Palladium last night. Racing To Win’s(2004 Easter Yearling Sale, $40,000) Doncaster Handicap success led the gelding to a victorious win in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing Champion Three-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Award. He polled 113 of a possible 150 votes.

Racing To Win’s part-owner Trevor Stuckey said, “it is a tremendous honour to beat such a high-class field and win this award. It was a season we will never forget and we just hope that Racing To Win continues to race up to his name in the future.”

Serenade Rose (2004 Easter Yearling Sale, $400,000) ,purchased by Adrian Nicholl, was rewarded for her dual Oaks-winning season claiming the New Zealand Bloodstock Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Award defeating dual Group 1-winner Mnemosyne, yet another graduate of the 2004 Easter Sale.

The night also saw Miss Finland (2005 Easter Yearling Sale $450,000), owned by Arrowfield Stud, take out the Yallambee Stud Champion Two-Year-Old Award. The Golden Slipper winner and Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up, whose prize money for the 2005/06 season topped $2,177,825, triumphed over her Blue Diamond Stakes-winning stable mate Nadeem, also a graduate of the 2005 Easter Sale and both by the all conquering Redoute’s Choice.

The Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale is next on the Inglis sale calendar, taking place at Oaklands, Melbourne on 25th August.
